Lebanon and the Arab world: about heritage, politics, religion, literature, and people.

Lebanese Patriot act....

I did not want to remember the summer of 2006. During those days, the barbaric Israeli army bombarded civilian areas. To legitimize their aggression against Civilians, Israelis propagandized that “terrorists” are shooting and hiding among people. Accordingly, some military “theorists” formulated their convenient “rules of engagement” to explain the necessity of “aggression” against the enemy. The Shelling of Nahr al-Bared Camp is another version of a barbaric onslaught against civilians.

While one supports the Lebanese Army and its soldiers, one has to put it clear that unorganized bombardment seems to be disproportionate. Do you remember this word, “disproportionate”? One has to wonder. One has to ask about the necessary political solutions for this crisis, is there any who is trying to solve this crisis politically?

And what is the deal with Patriotic sentiment. Patriotism should not lead to genocides. Patriotism is not bound to a political border. Patriotism is relative. One does not have to be Lebanese to be viable Lebanese patriot, I argue. Many Lebanese are more Saudi, Israeli or Iranians (refer to Lebanese Government and opposition) patriots than Lebanese.

I am disappointed with all who are inviting for death. How can “loving life” couple with promoting death? Life and death are not exclusive; oh yes, they are universal. While every human should mourn the losses of the “left-behind” Lebanese army – no one has to support and stand behind any army blindly, one has to clearly condemn the killing of Palestinian civilians. I cannot believe that there is not a single condemnation inside Lebanon…….poor Palestinians.

This war is not for freedom. It is not for peace. It is not for sovereignty. This war carried two banners: Revenge and “War against terrorism”. On the one hand, revenge, which is condemned in the first place, has to target the criminals and their promoters (if known); otherwise, how can one be different from the killers of the “two Ziads”. On the other hand, “War against terrorism” needs to be defined and organized. One  should not accept that Lebanese future be decided by a “random” and “tactical” raid against a band of “thieves” that ignited this war or prepared for it.

Watch out. This war is precursor of coming violence. I tend to think that such battles, if not put to a just  end, will signal the awakening of “terrorist cells” in Lebanon.  The target of these cells will not be the Lebanese Army only; it will include all the “enemies of God” like Westerners and UNIFIL, the “innovative Shi‘a” and, probably, the “infidels” like the dear Christians (of course this is what the groups like Fath-some-Islam claim). That is how civil wars start (Refer to the Iraqi example).

I know that I am predicting, but you know the “seal of all prophets”, Samir Ja‘Ja‘ is teaching people the art of prophecy, I heard he is going to publish a book called: “How to become a prophet, for dummies”; I cannot wait to read this academic achievement. Again, One should stand behind the Army that was left behind in the last two year; however, I condemn the aggression against civilians. Today a group of people gathered next to Wimpy in solidarity with innocent civilians. I urge all friends to demonstrate to save the Palestinian people. The real enemy is “down under”.  I am not joking…really…really.

Lebanese Surprises?

The opposition told the Lebanese government that they have a surprise after the holidays. The (very smart) opposition also told them what this surprise would be: to close all the vital centers of the country (well thank you) including the airport (looks wonderful). This is really surprising. I am kind of surprised. Kid you not. I mean I am in "Shock and Awe".  I feel perplexed. Water please. They are going to shut the airport down in 10 days....get ready.
So next time I want to surprise a girl friend, I will tell her a month before that I am buying her a diamond from Malek Al Jawaher (like Malek El Batata).

On the other hand, the brilliant and resiliant government told the opposition that if you surprise us then we will surprise you.  fantastic.

the riddle of the day:
it is what (ما هي)?...

Merry Xmas [to Saddam Hussein]

Have no sympathy with a tyrant, king, prince, dictator, thief or murderer [politicians and other].
I wish that in this new year, his Majesty the Lord (of the rings?) will remember all the above of the [Arab] world and celebrate with them [democracy and prosperity] next to his throne forming what one may call axis of kingship at the seventh sky. I promise I will always pray for them [above] ever after. Do not you see...I do believe.

Thank you.

Lebanese opposition and its declarations

Sometimes one has to wonder about what the Lebanese opposition thinks. Every week we hear about a new plan and a deadline for the government. I think this is causing damaged to the movement. Why should the opposition tell the Government about its plans. Why not act and surprise. NOw the latest announcement about a possible CHANGE that will start in February. What if that did not work? I see this very strange approach.
